Beauty & the beast. Irving & Beau.

The Irving work is really nice, Gary. Don't worry about the Beaufighter cockpit, crew or not you can't see much of it.

Panel line scriber and riveter, what do y'all recommend?

I have had the Bare Metal scriber for a long time and it is pretty good. If you can afford them, Tamiya makes a range of scribing tools in different widths that are very good and cost as much as a kit. I have two of them. They fit in a pin vise and I like them very much.

    Czech Model 1/48 Northrop XP-56

Thanks, everyone. Going to do a Tamiya P-47 next. Don't think it will have "wobbly wheels!"

    Czech Model 1/48 Northrop XP-56

Going to stop where I am, though I would have liked to have worked on the panel lines a bit more. The fragility of the landing gear made that too difficult for me and my shaky hands. Apparently the maker really wanted a scale size landing gear and that resulted in very weak struts, made worse...

    Tamiya P38J

"But on the other hand, you could always use the 'ol carpenter's rule, "If it don't fit, beat it in with a hammer"😮" Hmm, we used to say bash to fit and paint to match in the airplane shop.

    Czech Model 1/48 Northrop XP-56

Thanks for looking in, Chris. Working up the propellers this morning. 3/32 brass tubing and 1/16 music wire for the bearings and shafts. The kit did call for the shaft but not the bearings but things run truer and smoother with the brass bearings. All the prop blades are individual and there is...

    Czech Model 1/48 Northrop XP-56

Bob, they are venturies that operate split flaps for yaw control. The airplane had control and stability issues that limited its test program, and also was hindered by the failure of the engine that it was designed around. An R-2800 was substituted but it was larger and heavier than the...

    Czech Model 1/48 Northrop XP-56

I started another X-Plane, one that I have had in the workshop pile for 10 years or so. It is the 1/48 Czech Models XP-56. It has resin detail parts and the rest is fairly good limited run injection moldings. Fit is very good so far but bring a rough file for the pour stubs. The cockpit tub...

    Tamiya Schwalbe

Paul, I'm pretty sure the engines in the replica 262's are CJ-610's as used in the early Lear Jets. The earliest lowest powered CJ610-6 had 2,850 pounds thrust, about 1,000 more than the Jumo on its best day. They are hopefully limiting the thrust on the replicas.

    1/48 Caterpillar D-7

Here's the D-7 from the same source as the grader. I had to do some repair work on the hard nose and hood where the build was incomplete, thick CA and dental alginate were used for that.

    Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

John (Keavdog) posted about a good sale on this one so I snapped it up. The other Ju-87's I have are mostly Monogram and Revell, though there is a Ju-87A from Special Hobby in 1/48.
