"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I got the fifth and final figure completed. I wasn't able to edit my photos due to a memory issue, but at least you can see how she turned out and the placement and interaction of figures. Now to finish the building and to paint all of the accessories.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Today's progress on this diorama consists of completing the fourth out of five figures. The blue was kind of challenging for some reason, but I think it finally turned out ok. Photos aren't that great, but it gives you an idea how he turned out and where he will be located in relation to the...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Thanks, guys. I am kind of digging these types of scenes. I might do a few more in the next couple of years. Heck, I have enough facades that I built when I had COVID that I can make several dioramas.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

And this is where he will be located in the diorama. I hope to get the next figure completed by this weekend.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I got the first of the three Vietnamese civilians done this evening. The photos are not that great and I found a few things that I had to touch up on the figure, but at least it gives ya'll a good idea of how he looks.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Today I completed the painting of the second GI. He is a supply guy from the 15th Engineer BN of the 9th Infantry Division. He is wearing the 15th Engineer unit Crest on his hat and his jungle boots are spit shined. He is a conversion of a Bravo 6 figure.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

These are the Vietnamese civilians running the shop. The guy with his shirt tucked in is a conversion of the ARVN figure from Masterbox's "Somewhere in Saigon" kit with a head from the "Charlie on the left!" kit. The guy with his shirt untucked is a conversion of a guy from a company I do not...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

This is the new positioning of the figures. After I looked at the photos, I realized that I need to turn the female a bit so she will be looking at the guy with the tour jacket over his shoulder.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

It has been a while since I have done any updates on this project. I tested positive for COVID on 21 March and wasn't able to do much since I was isolated in a back bedroom and the stuff for this project was elsewhere in the house. I did work on several building facades using the Hansa System...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

For the structures which will also be the backdrop, I used building blocks and materials from Hansa Systems to form the facades of the buildings. There are other methods that other modelers use, but I like the Hansa System because it uses blocks similar to Legos making construction easy and...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I have been working slowly but surely on the third diorama in my "Shopping in Long Thanh" series and this one will be titled "Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets". In this diorama, GIs fron the 9th Infantry Division are shopping at two places - one that sells things like tour jackets, Ao Dais...

A7V and Crew, Western Front, 1917

With the exception of the title plate, this vignette is complete. My friend who this was made for is pretty pleased with it, so I guess it turned out well. In order to complete the base, I filled in the rest of the area with Magic Sculpt, textured it with an old toothbrush, then used Vallejo...

A7V and Crew, Western Front, 1917

Now I have both the A7V crewman and the officer painted and am currently working on the groundwork. I am happy with how the crewman turned out and I am pleased with the officer's uniform, but not with how the face turned out. I tried fixing it but it just made it worse, so I am just going to...

A7V and Crew, Western Front, 1917

Got the A7V crewman completed with the exception of the weathering which I will do when I do the groundwork.

A7V and Crew, Western Front, 1917

Here is something a bit different for me, a vignette of a wedgie of a WW1 German A7V from MModels and an enlisted tank crewman and an officer from Masterbox. I am building this for a friend of mine who is a WW1 history buff. The wedgie makes a good backdrop for the figures and creates the...

    Palm leaves

I actually still have some Hart of the South palm tree kits that I bought years ago but never got around to painting and putting together. I really need to go find them, but perhaps buying some new ones would be quicker. Thanks for checking to see if they were still in business and passing...

"GI! GI! You Buy!" Vietnam 1967

Thanks, guys. The girl is selling what is supposed to be pineapple on a stick. Kind of looks like popsicles, though. Not sure if those were sold like that back then.

"GI! GI! You Buy!" Vietnam 1967

Last night I completed the second vignette/diorama for my "Shopping in Long Thanh" diorama series. It is a fairly simple vignette but I think it turned out well. The American Soldier is a Bravo 6 conversion and the Vietnamese girl is from Paracel Miniatures. The M113 "wedgie" that is being...

    Frontierswoman Protecting the Homestead 1880s

Thanks, Guys. This vignette seems to be pretty popular at the various places I have posted it. One guy suggested something that I hadn't thought of, adding an arrow or tomahawk stuck in the wall to give a hint of the danger being faced. If I end up bringing this to a show, I just might have...

    Frontierswoman Protecting the Homestead 1880s

I started this project on New Year's Day and completed it last night in time for my wife's birthday which was today. The figures are from Masterbox which for injection molded figures were pretty decent. I did not modify them in any way, which is rare for me, but I thought they told a good story...
