    Figure conversions for upcoming dioramas

Thanks, guys. The direction that I think I will go with the figure above, this figure I am showing now, and the other figures I am working on will be a diorama of some dudes at a Conex container laying out equipment to inventory before signing for it and their Platoon Sergeant (the guy waving)...

    Figure conversions for upcoming dioramas

Not to long ago I had bought the IDF Tanker 1973 figure from Royal Models with the intention of converting him to a US GI in Vietnam. I scraped off the tanker coverall details, sculpted in the necessary details to transform the uniform into a set of 2d Pattern Jungle Fatigues. I then added the...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Well, I took some better photos of this diorama this afternoon. I took some at the show, but the majority of my photos were really blurry for some reason. These that I took in my pop up photobooth seem ok. There are a bunch of them from various angles. Then there are two photos of the three...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Aside from any last minute touch ups and adding the title plate, here is the completed diorama barely in time for the Tulsa Figure Show which is tomorrow. Things added since the last update are the Vietnamese black lacquer paintings and a cat that I painted to look like my cat Creamsicle. When I...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Thanks, Gary. So this scene probably brings back some memories. I remember wearing my dad's tour jacket to school when I was in the 4th or 5th grade and my sister still has her doll. My dad had also brought back an Ao Dai or two for my mom, but my sister wore one for Halloween one year. I also...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Monday's progress consisted of gluing the stack of painted ammo boxes to the ground, making the strip of groundwork from Magic Sculpt and then textured with AK Interactive dark earth texture, and adding the last two figures. Tomorrow I will paint the strip of earth and add a few accessories to...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Sunday's progress consisted of gluing the clothes rack and refinished footlocker onto the base, adding two cameras between the blue bag and camo hat on the shelves, and gluing three of the five figures to the base. I am now on the home stretch.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Thanks. There are actually two reasons for this. One is because of the way the Ao Dai is tailored. If you can see in these photos, there is a vertical line replicating the place where the material is taken in for the waist and torso under the location of each breast which causes the material...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I actually have a second update for today. I got the Ao Dai painted, the clothes on hangers glued to the rod, replicated oxidation on the clothes rack due to Vietnam's humid climate, and added some cardboard boxes. I probably will be able to add some figures tomorrow.

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I got the shelves stocked with some folded Tiger Stripe uniforms, a rolled up poncho liner, and folded Ao Dais. On the top we find a camo hat, a blue and yellow bag that ties this diorama with the "Buying Baguettes and Banh Mi" diorama, some woven bags, and a stack of conical hats. I don't have...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Thanks, guys. I am finally getting some time to work on this stuff on a regular basis now. Today's progress consisted of painting and placing bins of boxed trinkets and stuff on some shelves, placing some more cases of soda and one of beer, painting and placing a protective case on the bottom...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Today's progress consisted of highlighting the boxes so they "pop" a bit, painting the hinges and lock area of the boxes, painting four tour jackets that I sculpted to be hung up together (two black and two in ERDL camouflage), painting the cooler, and placing the cooler and two cases of Cokes...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I am starting to flesh out the store area. The two types of shelves are glued down, the Vietnamese dolls are secured to the shelf, the clothes rack has its base coat, and the boxes that were salvaged and painted to be sold to GIs as storage have received their initial coats of paint. I need to...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

Today's progress consisted of painting and attaching the roof, attaching the structure to the base, and applying pigments to the tile floor and the base of the building. Unfortunately when I was positioning the structure, the Gorilla Glue Super Glue set before I got it into completely into...

"Tour Jackets, Souvenirs, and Trinkets" Completed

I think she may be a bit pissed off that the guy with the tour jacket over his shoulder bought his at a different shop. :)
