Ok, here is a step by step using Bare Metal foil (stuff used by the guys building civilian cars to simulate i.e cromed parts)

The Bare Metal foil I found was in gold color. I have primed the car with a blue color to let some of this color come trough after the car has been overpainted with a lighter color.
The foil is very thin and fragile, I rubbed it in place using a soft color shaper

the peeling is done, I had to carefully sand the edges to smoot them out.

Since the foil was gold color I decided to prime it with Games Workshop Chaos black. Some of the edges between the foil and roof was still visible, this was overpainted using Mr Surfacer and micro baloons.
