Jadar Models Wooden Boxes MG-131 1/35th Scale

Jadar Hobby is a Polish hobby shop in Warsaw that many years ago established a web presence. While visiting Poland in August of 2010, I dropped by the hobby shop and met with the owner. I grabbed several light items to bring back home and possible review. It was interesting to see that Jadar, who manages Jadar Group, now has its own house brand with products. One item series are laser cut wooden ammunition boxes:

Inside a resealable cellophane sleeve we will find two sheets of printed and laser cut lightweight wood. The laser printing burned into the wood is nicely done with all the text clearly visible.

While the scorched edges detract from the overall appeal, the effect is not so obvious after some light sanding. To use, simply cut the design from the fret and glue. The tools needed are a straightedge and a sharp blade.

Here I am using a new #11 blade in a scalpel.

Assembly was quick and easy with wood glue but I did find that the strips were printed with the grain going perpendicular to how it should. This makes them easy to break. See above for a finished box. There are six boxes in the set.

Fortunately, as seen in the photograph above, there is a section of fret which is perfect to use.
The end result is not only attractive but does match the images from the reference site used Wehrmachts Kisten. At a retail of $6.22USD (April 2011) it is a good value.
I really love the concept and will definitely pick up more of these items. Also available are laser cut cardboard boxes.
