Bandai 1/48 Star Wars AT-ST

Bandai 1/48 Star Wars AT-ST Review

After seeing a few of these up in online builds, I wanted to grab one up. I received mine from Hobbylink Japan for around $15. While I cannot attest to how completely accurate it is-- from what I've looked through, it is a very nice quality kit.

First thing I snapped a shot of was the instruction manual-- notice the Disney logo front and center at the bottom

Steps seem very clear and concise-- and all instructions are in Japanese...

Sprue A contains some of the parts for the legs, various framework items, and a brown sprue containing the ground base and Chewbacca. The base seems pretty minimal...nothing extraordinary. If the legs are left unaltered, attaching it to the base is really the only way to keep it upright short of glue. There are build tutorials online indicating areas one can trim off tabs and get the legs fully articulated. When I get to building I will definitely be doing that!

Sprue B looks to be more of the parts for the legs-- and some other parts like the blaster cannons among others...

Sprue C1 contains parts for the interior of the pilot compartment, as well as parts for hatches and panels of the head...

Sprue C2 is more of the same--side panels for the pilots, as well as other parts for the head...
/gallery/albums/userpics/10783/007~60.jpg

Sprue D1 is made up of more of the armament, as well as the pilot figure and other misc parts...

The last sprue contains the other "pilot" figure, more hatches, and various other parts for the top region- including the main part of the head/body section...

Lastly we have the decals-- two sets of the same thing actually-- Imperial markings in either black or white- and scorch marks...Han shot first!

Overall, it is a very nicely detailed kit...and it's a shame when all is said and done and closed up- you'll see little of the interior detail. I imagine some Joe surgery or some creative use of the various available light kits out there would make this really pop!
