IDF F-16XL WHIF (1/48 Kinetic)

With the F-4 & RX-7 complete, time to move on with the next one. This build is for our annual club build. The theme for this year is Israel. Having confirmation that fantasy/what-if schemes were eligible I decided to go for something a little different to the norm. Seeing as Israel uses a variant of the F-15E, and with the XL being a direct competitor in that competition, I figured it was as good of a match as any. I need to try to get this done by the end of the year, so I best get cracking with my slow build pace.

The kit.

A few extras.

Neet-O! Will you use the conformal fuel tanks too?
No conformals. The kit doesn't come with them, and AM is too hard to find...and really expensive if you do. Besides the delta wing of the XL increases the fuel capacity greater than the conformals. Though that's not to say I didn't have the thoughts cross my mind...along with the extended dorsal.

IAF Jets mostly do their killing close to home, do they not?
Kfirs and F-16 Arrows at Nellis AFB for Red Flag?

Sorry for the delay in getting this thing rolling. Been dealing with an increased work load (60hrs/wk), fixing a broken down Jeep, and the resulting purchase & acquisition of a new commuter car. Hopefully I'll be able to roll back to 50hr weeks after Halloween and be able to find the bench again.

Don't worry about it Chris. I have not been at the bench since March. Been doing things like weeding out stuff, working on the house that I bought last Dec., emptying out a long time storage building, stuff like that. Once the cold weather finally hits, it will be work on the inside of the house, then "maybe" I can get back to building. Just keep hanging out here and in touch. That is the best part of this group.

Another update. Intake fitted and a little nose weight. Not typically required for an F-16...but the XL has a lot more wing area hanging out aft of the MLG. Figured better safe than sorry.

Also started on the gear. You can already see where there will be a little filler required in the intake join.

Test fit of the resin engine before final painting.

Do the control columns go in the center of the cockpits, like an F-4?
Asking for a friend.
