This has been on the shelf of Doom for 10 years now. Time to get 'er done!

Added the engine details and working on the landing gear now.

I'm pretty sure it does John. I know I started it on Swanny's site before coming over here.

BTW, I've noticed Italeri has just released a new P-38 in 1/72 scale which according to Scalemates is a repop of the academy kit. Happy days!

I know you meant P-38, Dave. And you can credit me for that release since I just built the Hasegawa kit! 😲

Right... I meant P-38 and yes that's usually the way it goes but they usually release the new kit right after you've built a very difficult conversion.

Excellent Dave! I will be looking in on this closely!

I have a shelf queen 1/32 Ju88A1 kit as well. What is done on it is good, it needs to get put in the cue to be finished as well. Getting there with upping my paint and detailing skills (mostly paint) and it will see the light of day again sometime soon.

Thanks guys!

Paul, when you get around to assembling the landing gear assembly insert the two main parts (the main strut and part 125 (126)) into their respective slots in the gear bay and glue the attachement point. Let that harden and then you can pull it out and assemble the other parts. At some point in the past I had tried to assemble the whole thing first and surprise, surprise it didn't fit.

Landing gear is on and and looks pretty good with it up on its legs. I was going to work on the gear bay doors tonight but my compressor blew a fuse so I'll have to go see if I can find a replacement fuse tomorrow. You can see the doors in the photos and they are painted but I used the wrong brand of RLM 65 and they stand out. I'll have to re shoot them with the right brand when I get the compressor running. It's things like this that have kept this project on the shelf for this long.

She sure takes up a lot of real estate

That's going to look good, Dave. And it looks like a better build than the 1/48 Dragon kits, fit wise.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. I have already done a lot of work on the landing gear and did a lot of modding on them. Have test fitted all that already. Going to have to dig up that old thread and redo it as all the photo were loaded on PooterBucket at the time. I had bought the brass gear from G-Factor and they were undersized and did not fit at all. Total junk.

Spent some time working on this today. Got all the gear bay doors on the other day and painted the insignia markings on the dive brakes. Today I did just a light post shading on the upper side because I got a little too heavy with the paint and the pre shading disappeared. Gave it a dusting with some Buff and then a dull coat. Then I spent over an hour peeling all the canopy masking off. I don't know how many years that masking was on but it mostly pulled up okay. It needs a lot of clean up as you'll see in the close up. Plus there is a lot of dust and crap on the inside of the canopy. I'll do my best to clean that all up. Just got to finish up the guns and a couple other little things and I'm there.

Nice to see all that work on the interior show up again.

I think I am going to have to take this outside for finished photos.
