Polikarpov I-16/24

I've been wanting to start this kit since I first saw it. Unfortunately I ordered some new markings for it and some AM stuff to dress it up. Well that is somewhere between Australia and here so I ordered a pilot from Winnipeg which will arrive next week. Therefor very little cockpit will be seen. I'll do this one basically oob. I will get another one day though to really dress up. Got the wings together and then dry fit the fuselage to ensure everything would line up. I am super impressed with this kit so far. I wonder why I shied away from ICM all these years.

I have some Brengun rockets for this as well and will be looking at either using them for this one or maybe the next. We'll have to wait and see. I should be able to hang the landing gear retraction cable off the fuselage sides as noone will see inside the cockpit anyways. Trying to decide best medium for that cable.

There's new ICM and then there is early ICM. I have a bunch of early Spitfire kits and it's best to have two kits to build one, what with shrink and sink marks. The Mk XVI I built so far looks great when done, very good on shape.

I built their Chaika in 48 and for what it was I was pleased with the outcome. I have changed my mind about their latest kits and I like them so much so that I got the repopped Buker and the 32 Gladiator which I am starting today. Great going James.

I'm not sure I ever had one before but something made me shy of them. So far this is nice. I have the Japanese version of the Bucker bu 131 (Ki 86B/K9W1) coming and I'm looking for the Gladiator. I researched their pilot kits and they look very nice and the one site gave the directions for making the seated pilot fit so I'll be good to go. Got my paint yesterday also so a bunch of building today and tomorrow I hope. Cant wait to see how she turns out.

Yep, world of difference in what ICM has been doing the past couple years VS older kits from them. I built the Special Hobby I-16 which wasn't bad but I suspect the ICM kit is better ! I have ICM's I-153 which I'm looking forward to building.

They always did have great kit box art...their 1/48 MiG-3 was a bear to build, but it still is my favorite box art to this day...

Found it. 1 last year and 1 this year.
Do 217N-1

DO 217J1/2

If I still did 1/48 I think I would look at these. Click the pics to go to Scalemates for more info.

I built their 215 and thoroughly enjoyed it

A review, test fit and build can be found here
I have their 215B-5 night fighter, the 217N-1 night fighter and 17Z in the stash, hoping for a 217K or M and 17E/F and 17M/P in the future.

Sorry for the derail, back to you James !

Pilots arrived today so now I can go and test fit him. Finish weathering and detail painting the cockpit and carry on. Almost ready to button it up.
The ICM figures look even better than the aircraft. Very nicely detailed and crisp.

Right here :0
Had to do surgery to the pilots left arm and it turned out pretty good I think. Also had to cut the front of the pan and no chute. He sits properly now. Next paint him. But in the meantime working on the engine. Need to drill out each exhaust pipe and then position. So taped engine to mount so I can try and guesstimate proper positioning. Would be better if the pipes were keyed.
Also finished the RQ-7B in time to take to work tomorrow.
Pics are not the best but headache so not going to try harder tonight. Cut out tape for all the instrument faces. I hope they look good for the reveal. Love mt Dspaie circle cutter.
