WWI Trench Scene COMPLETED

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
I'm starting this build campaign a bit late in the game, but I think I can get this one done in time. I am actually also building it for a show in Arlington, TX that will take place in a week and a half, so I have to get it done.

I plan on doing a small trench scene. I already have this figure from Warriors that I have had for several years. I will start working on this tonight. I have a trench figure base made by Jaguar as well as a kit from Masterbox with more figures on it's way and it should be here by Friday. At that time I will determine just what I will do for sure. I might end up using some of the Masterbox figures if I end up liking them more.

Anyway, here's the figure that I'll be starting on tonight.

There are some mould seams that I need to remove or fill in before painting. The painting shouldn't take too long since the colors are pretty similar.

Well, thanks for looking.

Cheers.

I just found my 1/16 kit of a similar figure on the weekend. The picture it is based on.

The base for this vignette arrived yesterday and consists of only two pieces. I am still waiting on the Masterbox kit, so I am going to go with the single figure and this base. I will make the Masterbox kit later for ModelFiesta in February. I will post the construction of that in my section in the Masters section since I won't start that until late October or November.

It should paint up fairly quickly. I might add a few things to the base, but it will depend how much time I have left before the Arlington, TX show on the 8th.

I got some painting and construction on the figure done. I still need to add the sling to the rifle and paint the headband inside the helmet as well as add some mud to the boots, etc. I think he looks pretty decent for a one day paint job.

Looks great James- love the base too! Looking forward to your progress on this one!

:good: looking good James but i wish your lighting was better as the details are hard to see clearly.

Thanks, Guys.

Those photos of the figure were taken in the afternoon, so the natural light coming through the window was less than what shines through in the morning. These pics of the pretty much completed figure (I'll probably add some mud once I get him positioned on the base) were taken this morning so I hope they are brighter.

I think he turned out pretty decent for a quick project figure.

Here is what I have done with the base so far - just the sandbags. After I post these pictures I will work on the groundwork and wood colors.

Thanks, Mark.

Here is what I got completed as of last night. I still need to muddy things up a bit and add some battlefield debris.

WWI Trench Scene COMPLETE

Thanks, Guys.

I am calling this one done. Unfortunately, it is raining outside, so the pictures are not as clear as they would be if I had taken them on a sunny morning. Perhaps I will take more later to see if they will turn out better.

I tried adding some items for battle debris, but the problem with using a pre-made base is that you don't have the flexibility of changing the contour of the terrain so things like helmets, etc, sit naturally. I ended up only adding a gas alarm rattle on top of a sandbag near the floor. I also muddied things up using Vallejo Mud Texture. At first I was afraid that adding it to the figure might ruin the finish but took the chance anyway. I think it turned out fairly well.

I titled this "Lucky Lad" and I will be displaying this at the Fort Worth IPMS show this weekend. It's theme is the end of World War I and things in 1918, so this works out well for both this build campaign and the show.
