The Workhorse

A couple of us have been discussing this Campaign that will focus on vehicles, be that Land, Sea or Air. So the we would want systems that were produced in large numbers and where the back bone in it's given area.

Some food for thought WWII...
-AFV-
Sherman
T-34
PzIV (I don't really think Panthers and Tigers were viewed as Workhorses)
Cromwell (maybe)
Japanese Armor???

-Air-
P-47
P-51
B-17
Spitfire(?)
Hurricane(?)
Bf-109
Fw-190

Just a few but you all get the Idea. Not sure on a time frame yet for when to start or for how long. So give this some thought and if there is enough interest then we can finalize a listing of what is a "Workhorse"
:v

I've got an idea. Eisenhower thought these made a significant contribution to the Allied War effort in WWII
I'm in!

I am SO in! I cannot join immediately as I have to gain progress on some other builds I have going.

A few other possible contenders:

T-55
M-113
Jeep (all variants)
I was thinking only about vehicles with many odd variants. How about vehicles & A/C that were used in many nations. Does that also qualify?

I see that appears so. If that is the case, here are some other considerations:

Bren Gun Carrier
M-48 / M-60
Centurion
F-16
Hind-D gunship
OH-6 / MD500
MIG-....(you pick!)

LST?

I'm thinkin' a Dakota. :pilot

Could be the Higgins boat too.

Other potential WW2 candidates:

- Deuce and a half and its variants - 560,000 built, second only to the Jeep
- The Liberty Ship - 2700 built
- Flower Class Corvette (Temptress & Action Class Patrol Gunboats in US service) - 295 built, made up half of the North Atlantic Escort Force
- Unterseeboot - 709 Type VII's built of a total of 1156

Cheers,
Rich

I thought Eisenhower mentioned the Jeep and the C-47 specifically. Is this to be restricted to WW II?

No I am sure it is not restricted to WW2, as the vast majority of my modeling is post war to modern

Negative Ghost Rider, any era. :soldier

I meant to say Higgins, had been out in the yard all day and pollen pluggin the brain...

You all are on the correct path! I was going to add a poll to see who all/how many are interested, when to begin and for how long...but I can't finger out how to add that.

 .....Happy Patty-Day

Hmmmm....

:hmmm

Ian.

So far I'm good with all the suggestions thus far. Also thinking that projects already started will be good as long as they are no more than 50% done. I would like to get 10 to 12 people on the poll before giving this Campaign a start date.
:v

Yep, your guessed it! Mine's the Gooney! C-47-DL, 41-38601 of the SWPA. Navy R-4D "Winnie the Whale" is another choice! There was a DC-3 based in Boone when I was a kid. She left a lasting impression on an 8-year-old.
:salute :snoopy :pilot

I am very surprised that all the ribbon hounds aren't all over this. :eek:hmy: :mpup

Who's in?
