ORP Orzel

I am going to build the Kilo Class Submarine ORP Orzel using the Trumpeter kit. I had tried one of these years ago with less than stellar results (in fact it got turned into a waterline model, before getting junked). A friend gave me this one two or three years ago, and I really didn't want to deal with the three piece hull again, but for this I will.

The lesson I learned on my previous attempt was that the three piece hull (two lower haves split vertically, and one upper pieces that attaches to the two lower halves) was rather flexible and cleaning up the seam around the hull was somewhat problematic as the join kept flexing. So first off the single piece upper hull was reinforced with pieces of sprue from the kit, this made for a much more stable join line around the hull.

The hull went together fairly well after this, and I am at the exciting fill, sand, prime, repeat satge with the hull.

Now, I do have a question and request for help; on the upper front of the sail there is a plaque of some type, I assume the Polish Navy Insigna?? Does anyone know for sure, and also where I might be able to find a decal of this to add to the model??
Thank you,
Ernie

It is indeed the Polish Navy Ensign as seen here:

I don't know of any decal in 1:144 for your kit although Hobby Boss included it in their 1:350 scale rendition.

Here is a link so you can see that the plaques with names mount on studs only while in port and are removed when underway.

Regards,

Saul, thank you for the information on the ensign. I will probably have to try to print my own. Thank you also for the info on the name boards, I had noticed this and am planning to add them to the sail. In fact I have already ordered and received some letter decals that I think will be appropriate for the lettering.

I checked if someone makes decals for ORP Orzeł in Poland in 1/144 - unfortunately not. But if you give me the approximate dimension of the coat, I will check if I have something that I could give you as as a replacement.

Cool looking project. Went looking on youtube and found a neat film that may interest you.
