Been looking around here and WOW ton's of great tip's...but... I have not seen anything on how to make snow. I always wanted to do a snow dio but never know how to make it. Let's hear your ideas. :good:

Hello,

You can buy a tub of micro balloons at hobbytown USA. mix that with some white glue of paint diluted white ( and or pledge floor polish for that wet snow look ) glue onto your base and then sprinkle the balloons down.

The balloons have an added bonus of having a bit of a glint and sparkle to them

have a look at this thread to see what i mean

I have used a product called Micro-balloons. It can also be used as seam filler when added to CA glues, it makes them much easier to sand. The RC world uses it mixed with epoxies for the same reason.

There are several companies that make snow and ice products, The Scenic Factory, Scenic Express, Precision Ice & Snow are a few.

I have heard of baby powder being used as snow.

Baking soda can be used but it can yellow and because it is organic it can attract bugs in some climates. The same goes for those that have tried flour, sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Cheers,
Rich

I'm not sure size-wise .... but Games-Workshop makes a snow now .... I'll check it out when I get to work .... I have some on the shelf .... I'll be needing some for my eastern front Dio anyway and I have 3 in stock .... :coolio

I actually used good old fashioned Dollar Store Baby Powder on a build once. It is still holding up fairly well after four years. https://www.modelersalliance.com/forum/armoured-fury/91449-1-35-trumpeter-rf-8-aerosan-wip?start=12#92633

I've been doing some experimenting with acrylic nail powder and mica powder.

I'll post the results when I start on my Kharkov dio...which better be soon!!!

I used Tamiya snow effect in this diorama.

Ok if it is a smaller dio but if you need a lot of snow maybe best to go with some other option
