Restored XP-82 first flight

I ran across this plane being restored a little over a year ago. They made a lot of progress this last year. Here it is taking it's first flight in over 40 years.

This is the first prototype which made a hard landing and was obtained and stored away up until about 10 years ago. I loved the Merlin engines firing up and running.

I think this is the one our friend Ken Friend scratch build and used photos for decals of the panels.

I mean how many XP 82s are being restored?

Thanks Paul!

According to the XP-82 site, there is a P-82 that is in process of being restored to airworthy condition up in Michigan I think. This one is located in Douglas, Georgia and is the sole surviving prototype. There are also a couple at the Air Force museum in Dayton that I know of.

If you want reference material here is the link to the site (lots of photos so go for it :D )

I have a 1/48th scale Academy kit in my stash from a number of years ago. ("somewhere" in my stash) Have never touched it as it is a bit on the rough side. Might have to dig it out and take another look.

Modelcraft, not Academy,Paul. I have two, kit 48-020 and 48021. People say they are an adventure to build.

There is a F-82 at the Air Force base in San Antonio TX. You have to have special permission to get on the base.

When I lived in Florida, I would hang out at Tom Reilly's on the weekends.
