Remember the fallen and honor those survivors who's numbers are dwindling daily.

Another reminder.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7767099/Ceremony-remember-killed-Pearl-Harbor-attack.html

Last survivor of the USS Arizona that was sunk at Pearl Harbor is laid to rest with his crew-mates as divers take his ashes down to the ship and veterans gather on the anniversary of tragedy

Headline kinda misleading.

Last survivor who will be interned on the Arizona is laid to rest.

Teresa and I attended the Des Moines Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony together this year. This was my first in clean clothes, since I usually drive in from a jobsite. In fair 40-ish temps I found attendance to be disappointingly light.
Have the Newsies done such a fine job of inflaming our countrymen, that reverence and honor have become passe'?

The Des Moines AMVETS chapter did their usual excellent job of presenting their display. The Marine Detachment did their Brothers proud with the M-1 Garand gun salute. TAPS was a recording. Buglers are hard to come by these days.
My friend Lewis Boers is still on the the monument.
Teresa's Dad served in the US Army in WWII until his diabetes was discovered. We shared a somber visit to the Des Moines Memorial grounds yesterday.

My hope is that the Iowa Veterans Cemetery ceremony was better attended. The Van Meter VFW members pull out all the stops for Veteran's Day.

Just my humble impressions.

Thanks for posting this thread Bob and the Iowa perspective Rino! As this generation departs from us we must make sure that their sacrifice is not forgotten nor relegated to obscurity in history.

Amen! Those who choose not to study their history are doomed to be victims of it's repetition.
At some point, I pray the people of this Great Nation will find more important things than the newest tricky phone, the next critical text message, the $15.00 cup of fancy coffee and addiction to unnamed social media. :bat :bang head

Chris I know what you mean, I called up our local rag complaining about the 39th D-Day only being mentioned by Snoopy...They said the only print what comes down the wire. :bang head.

At lease there's Snoopy going over to Bill Mauldin's.
