Memphis Belle unveiling May 17-19 2018

I was wondering if anyone else is planning on going to Dayton, OH in May to see the Memphis Belle unveiling? I've been looking and planning for a few months to go, and now it looks very likely that I'll be able to make it.

The Belle will be unveiled on the 17th, which will be the 75th anniversary of the flight crew completing their 25th combat mission, and May 19th is the 75th anniversary of the Memphis Belle completing her 25th combat mission.

The unveiling is being held at the National Museum of the US Air Force, and is supposed to have quite a bit going on w/ it. There are supposed ot be several WWII aircraft on display during the event, and there is even going to be a fly-in of 4 B-17's for the event, I'm really looking forward to that part.

That would be a really great road trip Adam but I seriously doubt I could go. We have a factory up there...maybe I could sabotage something... :hmmm

Hmmmm. . .

I don't plan on going, as heavily advertised as it has been the place will be a zoo. I may visit a few weeks before just to see how they are going to squeeze it in. When I was there last fall they had placards in the area where the Belle was going to be displayed and it was right in the area where the Strawberry Bitch sits which is already a very crowded area. I personally would like to see them move the C-46 and C-47 to the new building with the rest of their global reach aircraft and free up more space for the WWII combat aircraft but I doubt that will happen.

Robert Morgan, commander of Memphis Belle flew her between City Hall and the Court House down town Asheville NC. He was a native of Asheville.

I've heard there's a photo of this but haven't seen it.

I've searched and there is no photo as no one expected him to do that. It is in the memoirs:

Regards,

I recall a TV interview with him telling people to go to City Hall and ask them to show them the photo of when he did that, may be that painting that we can see all over.

Yeah it sounds very unexpected, not like everyone had front and rare facing cameras on the phone booths back them...:rotf.

That is very cool, I didn't realize he was from Asheville. Next time we're up there, I'll have to go find that monument.

She is a Beauty. I like the early sleek figures of the B-17 until the Foxtrot Version. After that got bulky.

I have never assembled a B-17... :hmmm :hmmm :hmmm :hmmm

Cheers
