Kenn Boreks Twin Otter

Hi everyone!
Here is my next project. It's a comisioned build for a guy that flew to Arctic expeditions with these. It will represent the plane from his last expedition.

I started with windshield. The one in the box is too small, so I made biger opening and inserted clear styrene, this was then cut in half so I could work on the interior. Pilots side windows were also replaced. Cabin windows are originals glued in and sanded flush with surface from outside.

Fuselage halves are now glued and I'm working on the engines now.

Kenn Borek's Twin Otter

I built two of these kits many years ago - still a favourite, especially the Revell boxing with the excellent decal sheet.

Kenn Borek's Twin Otter

The Twotter is such a cool little bird. Wish I could have gone up for a quick ride in one, but only did parks and starts. Looking good.

Thanks guys!
I like theese Revell reboxes. They're a cheap way to get some vintage but atractive kits. I'm waiting for them to rerelease the Norseman...
Jim, this one will be C-FDHB with wheel/skies combo. It's the one from his last expedition.

Haven't done much modeling on it, so I have nothing new to show.
Till next time!

Uros I don't know how much detail you intend to add, but there are two little towing lugs on the front of the nose ski.
I hope Revell releases the Noorduyn also, I think I only have one of the old Model Craft kits left in the stash. If you want a Matchbox kit in 1:72 drop me an email, I have three. I'll give 'em away because I know I'll never build them.

Thanks Sherman 18!
Jim I will probably be sending you an email and thanks for the heads up. I got some nice photos and I'll see how much detail I will add as I go.

Had some time to work on this one and made some progress.
First I focused on the wings.
I made landing lights with leftover clear resin.

New airvents(not sure if it's the right name for those).

And theese pieces. Don't know how they are called, but I know they are too thick out of the box so I made new ones from beer can.

Also propellers are done. I replaced originals with some leftovers sanded to right shape.

And glued them in feathered position.

All lost panel lines on the fuselage were rescribed and I added door hinges.

She's gonna be a beauty. (y)

Those things are wing fences, or stall fences. They're way too thick, you did well to make new ones. Let me know if you need a shot of the nose ski installation that shows the way the ski check cables and bungees are rigged.

Great job so far . I had the pleasure of flying in the float version of a twin Otter last year :woohoo:

One of the best rides ever (y) Keep up the good work .

Cheers, Christian B)

Thanks guys!

I'm making nice progress on this one. I made new fuselage reinforcements, that were sanded of. I used leftover vinyl mask sheet from CL-604 build.
First I took some measurements with masking tape.

Then I transfered that to sheet and cut them out.

also made this little air intake.
20180301_174853_zpsjkyjf4w2.jpg

I replaced plastic parts for wheel atachment with metal ones.

Stoneboat sent me some photos of skies attachment. Jim, thank you for that!
This is what I started with
20180226_165901_zpszvvntenq.jpg

Front nosewheel looked a bit to small, so i added two layers of strene to the circumference than puttied and sanded to shape.

Model is in primer now. It needs some touch ups and few more details, then it's paint time!

Thanks for looking!

Great stuff Uros. (y)

There's nothing to see in the engine intakes, or that little ram air intake, so what I did with the one I built for Mike was to cut out two rounds of plastic, glued a little pull handle on them using a length of wire, painted them fluorescent orange and used them to close off the intakes, like the isolators on the real thing.

Thanks guys!
Jim, I will also make intake covers. Intakes just don't look good. On another Twoter nacelles were black, so not much was seen inside. Here they are red.

After a lot of masking, painting is finished. It just needs some minor touch ups. Waiting on decals from J-bot now.
