Alone and in Jeopardy...

Ok....so I sort of posted this ready in the What Are You Up To? thread but after MP suggested I post it up separately, well here we are. The idea is a wall in the center- and on one side, a LDRG Command Car from WWII....and that entire side will be b&w...the other side will be a modern Toyota Technical with a Tier One operater. Here's the progress from the other day....

Truck obviously needs touching up...but it was originally gray and I didn't think that'd be the best color considering the b&w on the other side ;)

And after some good advice here and on the Facebook, I darkened the bottom a bit- but instead of using darker paint like black that might look too drastic, I decided to try using Might pigments instead. Figured it wouldn't be so start, and also lend a little graininess to the shadows as well.

And my attempts at the start of the b&w wall

This should be interesting. One thing I learned from research is that most technical are white or muted colours because it costs so much more money to get one in a standard (to North America) colour. Osprey has just come out with a new book on Technicals as well if you are interested and Echelon has released a new decal sheet for technical and one for Special Forces if you want to keep it allied.

Thanks PaulW, Paul, and James!

I've seen some red and grey James...I kind of liked the blue. I really want to stay away from white since the other side is b&w. Might go back and do red...not sure. I do have the Osprey book and found it an ok reference...but found better stuff online imo...decals look neat but I'm thinking of trying the markings freehand...have some ideas...

Looks like an interesting project. The models are looking good. I like the black and white effect.

:popcorn

Cheers,
James

Just a wild guess but how about...stucco? :D :mpup

How about some dry wall mud, I don't think it shrinks bad.

Got some around here somewhere Bob- I'll give it a go!

Meantime....more done on the car...still more to play around with..

And a close up of the radio I still have to detail...

Very cool work Mike !!!
You can use low tack painters tape take jagged pieces and cover the areas you want to leave as stone then fill in the unmasked area with your mud .
Do it in layers , don't glob it on in one shot , then remove the tape and sand to your desired effect .

That's great advice- thanks Glenn! I was thinking about how I'd do the brick side....this ought to be easy to try!

really neat work! On the LRDG truck, it threw me a minute to see that you had mounted No.1 MkIII rifles in it, but that is correct! Although the No.4 was adopted in either '41 or '42, the Brits still fought on with the No.3 for some time!

On another note, the technical is very interesting to me. I had thought of a group build called "Let's get Technical", will be watching this one closely!
