A-4 Skyhawk Vietnam loadouts

Anyone have some resources for the typical load out for the A/B model of the venerable A4 Skyhawk in the VN timeframe? Have looked but not really finding anything of value

This is for the A-4C but it still only has the 3 stations.

Really no such thing as typical loadout, all depends on the mission and how far inland it was.

Nice reference. The 3 dots for the M117 would be a TER, the 6 dots for the MK82 would be a MER.

BTW, I do not believe it would get off the ground with 5 MERs fully loaded, even with a catapult.

Heres one.

And according to this http://www.historynet.com/douglas-a-4-skyhawks-provided-support-for-vietnam-war.htm it could take in 8000 pounds of ordinance. Of course as Bob pointed out it depends on distance, target, and mark of a/c it was.

Typical load out is bombs, missiles and or rockets but not necessary in that order. Just being a smart @$$ and parroting what Bob said.

Just keep in mind the B only had 3 stations and not 5. Personally I'd just bomb it up with MERs on every station. What's cooler than carrying more than twice the bomb load of a B-17 on a tiny Scooter? Nothing.

I think the gear would buckle....:rotf

A cool loadout, fuel centerline, Mers inboard and Mavericks outboard.

Personally I would like two shrikes ad a B61...

:blink :blink BOOOM!

OK, question we've had for a long time, so how do you get around the "Two Man Concept" with a single seat nuke delivery?

By the time they are sending pilots on one way suicide missions with a single nuke, crap has already hit the fan I'm guessing. Interestingly, exactly what the F-105 was originally designed for. Also scary. And insane.

Toss bombing goes pretty far back. As for the big fluffy that is what the A-5 Viggie was originally designed for.

Hey guys, I am going to revisit this topic and ask, did the version of the skyhawk with 5 hardpoints serve in Vietnam? Is it accurate to say tha the A-B carried 5 hardpoints...or just three?

THANKS!

The RCAF CF-104's were acquired for the nuclear tactical strike and reconnaissance role in NATO. Their targets would have been supply depots, airfields and major bridges. They used "over-the-shoulder" toss bombing for free fall weapons and high speed, low altitude delivery for parachute retarded weapons.

Cheers,
Rich

Just found this link the other day looking for load outs for an A-4M.

A-4 Loadouts

Has "typical" load outs for all the versions of the A-4, under the references heading.
