F-111 in Vietnam

I think I'm in on this.

I got that Academy F-111 kit a while back. As usual I haven't done any research on this but I know the F111 was in SEA towards the end of the war.

Do we know if there are any decals for a Vietnam Aardvark?

Aviation Megastore shows Australian markings only.

Woo Terry! That was quick.

Thanks Dave, those are sold out though but it gives me something to work with.

I dig the SEA on black scheme. that was what I had in my minds eye about these.

The one they had at Lowry AFB during training, I think was in this scheme. I was in the SAC shack though, not TAC.

Thanks James, check this. I got the Hobby Boss F-111 A. Guess there's some update sets I'll have to get to make this right.

Good luck master Bob...

I always thought that only Australian F-111 were active in Vietnam. Guess I was wrong.

Looking Forward to your Aardvark

Cheers

Alex

As far as know, the first F-111's were deployed from Nellis before the airplanes had been completely assessed for combat readiness.

They did not fare well. No idea of the markings.

Cheers, Christian B)

No not the first round in 68, they were modified and redeployed like '72 I think. Haven't had time to dig in this. got a good 3 day weekend coming up so we'll see what happens. :coolio

Combat Lancer - 6 aircraft deployed from Nellis AFB. Three were lost in the first month due horizontal stabilizer failure.

F-111.net, if you haven't found it already.

Also from Wiki

September 1972 saw the F-111 back in Southeast Asia, stationed at Takhli Air Base, Thailand. F-111As from Nellis AFB participated in the final month of Operation Linebacker and later the Operation Linebacker II aerial offensive against the North Vietnamese.[55] They also supported regional aerial operations against other communist forces such as Operation Phou Phiang III during the Laotian Civil War in Laos.[citation needed] F-111 missions did not require tankers or ECM support, and they could operate in weather that grounded most other aircraft. One F-111 could carry the bomb load of four McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs. The worth of the new aircraft was beginning to show; F-111s flew more than 4,000 combat missions in Vietnam with only six combat losses.[55]

Conversion set for F model with some nice looking hardbombs and a pitot tube.

Still not clear what model was in Vietnam. I see the A model was in the first deployment but what about the second in '72?
