Odd or Unusual or One ofs (limited ) Not based on colour schemes or only used by 1 country. Think of the Minenraummer, the Tortoise, the messerschmidt 3 wheeler

Odd Unusual One ofs

There could be a lot of scratch buildin' in this. But if we go, I think I could call the Spirit of St Louis a one off, don't ya think?

OK I give up, what's one off about this? I think it's the gun but not sure.

Correct. It is an American Firefly Sherman. Looks to have been a late M4A3 hull with a completely British modified turret. Also note left side of the hull has a star but the right side. :good:

Interesting pix. :good: I am going to try and track down wartime pix of the M4A2 small hatch hull with the Firefly turret.

The American Firefly tanks did make it to Europe. So far, no documentation if they fired their guns in anger but I have photos and documentation, which first appeared in AFV News, that they made it to Europe. There is an article by Steven J. Zaloga on this unit and their tanks:

Here is one on an M4 Composite from the May 1970 AFV News cover photo:

Regards,

There's something odd about that Stuart, M5? The hull looks different.

OK what makes a Sherman a Firefly, the gun?

Yes, it is the British 17 Pounder gun.

Who you kiddin'...that's gotta be heavier than 17 lbs..you think I was born in a barn? :silly: :gogo :rotf

Locust Tank, never heard of it. Looks like the drive train of the light tanks though. Distant cousin maybe?
